Deliverance Ministry

This is an important component of the gospel that has often been portrayed
negatively due to a lack of understanding. In many churches this subject is
neglected or is even taboo, this in turn has led to a widespread neglect of the
full gospel within churches today. As a result many born again Christians live a
defeated life, enslaved to Satan’s strongholds of the soul and body.

There has been widespread misunderstanding within the body of Christ as to
whether a born again Christian can be possessed by an evil spirit. In short the
answer to this is no, for the word possessed denotes ownership, however born
again Christians whose spirit belong to Christ can remain or become enslaved in
body and soul by evil spirits.

Man consists of three distinct parts and is therefore tripartite in his makeup.
These three parts include; spirit (God-consciousness), soul (Self-consciousness)
and body (World-consciousness). When God created man in the Garden of Eden
he was perfect and totally covered by the glory of God. His spirit, soul and body
where in complete harmony with God. When Adam sinned through disobedience
to God, he lost his right to dwell in that glory and his spirit became separated
from the Spirit of God. Mankind became subject to the consequences of Adams
disobedience to God. (Romans 12:5)

As a result of the separation between man and the Spirit of God, the spirit of man
became dormant and the soul established itself as the dominant force. A soul not
in subjection to the spirit (indwelt by the Spirit of God) will become self-governing
and consequently enslaved to Satan, the prince of this world. (2 Peter 2:19, John
14:30).

As descendants of Adam, we are enslaved to sin by Satan; (John 8:34; Romans
6:17; 2 Peter 2:19). Because the spirit is dormant we are born self-centered, and
our natural inclination is to live independently of God. Any man not in subjection
to God is by default in subjection to Satan, because a spirit not indwelt by the
Holy Spirit cannot resist the devil.

Our need for Christ (2 Corinthians 4:4). This strategy is designed to widen the
gap between man and God and to allow Satan to legally inflect wounds that
leave deep scars in our souls (mind, will and emotions). It is these wounds that
become a gateway, through which evil spirits can enter and establish demonic
strongholds.

Our desires and affections are turned toward God when we recognize our sinful
condition and God’s salvation through grace. (Ephesians 2:8)

It is important to understand that to be born again pertains to the spirit of man
only. When the will of man is surrendered to Christ, the Holy Spirit revives his
dormant spirit by taking up residency in his spirit. (Galatians 2:20, John 3:6,
Romans 8:9-10) The soul is not born again, but transformed gradually by the
renewing of our minds and the word of God. (Romans 12:2 Ephesians 5:26)

It is here that the ministry of deliverance is required. Mark 16:17; and these signs
will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; Matthew
10:7-8; And as ye go, preach, saying, the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the
sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received,
freely give. It is the soul that needs to be set free from demonic afflictions.

Many born again believers live in frustration, because they do not understand
why after surrendering their life to the Lord Jesus Christ, their demonic problem
has persisted. The simple explanation to this is that many evil spirits will not leave
their host freely. They must be commanded to leave in the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ once the legal ground is renounced. On occasion the evil spirit(s)
may put up resistance to being cast out even though there is no legal ground to
remain. In these instances, prayer and fasting is used to weaken the demonic hold
prior to commanding it to leave (Matthew 17:21).

The Deliverance ministry is a key component of the gospel reserved for the
children of God. To deny it as a necessary part of the gospel for today is to reject
the overwhelming body of evidence of its activity in the gospel of Christ.

Here at New Birth Tabernacle we embrace the ministry of deliverance as a gift
to born again believers. You can live victoriously over the power of the enemy.
The weapons that we use against Satan are not designed by men. They are
designed by God to destroy the works of the devil in the life of every believer (2 Corinthians 10:4, Ephesians 6:12).
